Percentages of a Quantity
To find p% of a quantity, multiply the quantity by p/100.
How it works
Percentage is a representation of a fraction with denominator 100. Useful benchmarks—50% is one half, 25% is one quarter and 10% is one tenth—make many calculations mental.
Worked example
Find 35% of 240.
- 10% of 240 is 24.
- 30% is 3 × 24 = 72.
- 5% is half of 10%, so 12.
- 72 + 12 = 84.
