How it works
First decide whether the target unit is smaller or larger. A quantity needs more smaller units and fewer larger units. Keep the unit beside every number so the direction stays visible.
Worked example
Convert 3.6 km to metres.
- One kilometre equals 1000 metres.
- The target unit is smaller, so multiply.
- 3.6 × 1000 = 3600.
